DENGUE FEVER

INTRODUCTION:

Dengue fever is a type of arbovirus, which is short for arthropod-borne virus. The virus that causes dengue fever is carried by Aedes egypti mosquitoes, and is transmitted to humans through their bite. An organism that carries a disease, without actually developing the disease, is called a vector.

DEFINITION:

Dengue fever is a disease caused by one of a number of viruses that are carried by mosquitoes. These mosquitoes then transmit the virus to humans.

ALTERNATIVE NAMES:

O'nyong-nyong fever; Dengue-like disease; Break bone fever.

SYMPTOMS OF DENGUE FEVER:

* Fever

* Rashes

* Muscle aches (myalgia)

* Joint aches (arthralgia)

* Headache

* Nausea

* Vomiting

* Enlarged lymph nodes

TREATMENT OF DENGUE FEVER:

There is no specific treatment for dengue or dengue hemorrhagic fever. However, supportive care with intravenous fluids and frequent blood test monitoring reduces complications of the disease. In severe cases, blood transfusions may be required.

* Fluids

* Rest

* Antipyretics (avoid aspirin)

PREVERNTIVE MEASURES FOR DENGUE FEVER:

* Monitor blood pressure, hematocrit, platelet count, level of consciousness

Continue monitoring after defervescence

* Dengue fever can be prevented through measures to prevent mosquito breeding around the house and to protect against mosquito bites.

* Precautions include wearing long-sleeved clothes, using mosquito coils and electric vapour mats, and using insect repellent over the exposed parts of the body.

* Adoption of good daily habits such as clearing blockages from the roof gutter, clearing leaves and stagnant water from drains, removing water from potted plants daily, avoiding the use of pot plates and changing the water in vases everyday will also help to eliminate the chances of mosquito breeding.

HERBS FOR DENGUE FEVER:

* Guaiacum officinalis to reduce fever

* Chickweed ointment to soothe irritable rash

NATURAL HOME REMEDIES FOR DENGUE FEVER:

Normal dengue fever is not that dangerous. The symptom-based treatment should be resorted to i.e., wet pads could be used if the temperature is high. Antidotes could be administered as per the necessity. Pain-killers should not be given to the patient of hemorrhagic dengue. Pain-killers tend to increase hemorrhage. Maintaining the water balance of the body and controlling the blood pressure of the patient is also necessary.

The treatment given for the patients of normal fever and malaria is applicable for the dengue fever also.

* Mix 3 spoons of baking soda with a little water; smear on sting.

* Rub the afflicted area with the inside of a banana skin.

* Put ice on the spot immediately after being stung.

* Apply tea tree oil on the sting.

* Put some toothpaste on the bite (not on the skin).

* Squeeze basil leaves and apply on sting.

* Rub some lemon on the sting.

* Saturate a cotton ball in vinegar and put on the sting.

* To get rid of mosquitoes: Drip 3 drops of geranium oil into a burner.

How To Get Rid of Stuffy Nose

Stuffy Nose

Come winter time and most of the people fall prey to the problem of cough and cold. Amongst all the symptoms of the ailment, the most irritating one is that of a stuffy nose. You are not able to breathe properly and sleeping becomes like a torture. More often than not, a stuffy nose is also accompanied by a kind of heaviness in the head.

Get Rid of a Stuffy Nose

How is it that I've written articles about sore throats, colds, the flu, headaches and fevers, but never an article about how to get rid of a stuffy nose? Well, now I have, and it focuses not only on getting rid of a stuffy nose, but it also focuses on something that's becoming a more popular diagnosis for chronically stuffy noses.

Stuffy Nose Home Remedies

Steam will unclog a stuffy nose.

One way to relieve a stuffy nose is with steam. Steam from a shower, a kettle, or even a cup of chicken soup can help. But, if you really want to get rid of your stuffy nose, try this method.

What you drink can affect your stuffy nose.

Drinking fluids like water, tea or juice will thin mucus, which will help alleviate your stuffy nose. But avoid beverages that contain caffeine, because they will only make your stuffy nose worse.

you should have it with you whenever your nose drives you mad. This might not be the case every time, since you have to buy it first, and then carry it with you whenever you go.

Avoid irritants. Common irritants that may stimulate mucus production include cigarette smoke and sudden temperature changes - going from extreme heat into air conditioning, for instance.

Get a steaming bowl of hot water, stick a flannel over the back of your head and stick your head in it (not the boiling water but in the bowl so the steam reaches your face) It should hopefully, unblock your nose and you can blow it all out

Yoga Can Help You Of stuffy Nose

Most of us have a common notion that stuffy nose is due to thick mucus in the nasal passage and in the quest of how to get rid of a stuffy nose we try some methods like nasal soothing by hot vapors from water and eucalyptus oil or mint. Some of us try to blow hard our nose to remove the mucus but in vain, instead we hurt our ear drum in doing so. If you are practicing such activities to get rid of stuffy nose.

Use a saline nose spray

Use a saline nose spray It sounds really gross but it works incredibly. I felt soooooooo much better after using it. My nose was clear and I got better much more quickly than normal. Now I always keep one in the house just in case.

get rid of a runny nose

Medication doesn't help, anyway. You can open a stuffed nose up again by inhaling vapor (put boiling water in a bowl, cover the bowl and your head with a towel and breathe through your nose), it helps if you add camphor or menthol in some form (opens up the sinuses). You can also use saline solution, spray it up your nose while you breathe in, then spit it out through your mouth.

takes some nyquil, drink some lemon tea wrap yaself in a warm blanket and relax. i gauranteed you would feel better. Try using Tylenol Cold & Flu, Neo Citran or the NyQuil/DayQuil combo pack. If any of these or any other cold medicine does not work, you may have to get a prescription for antibiotics. Good luck. Another thing you can do also besides medcine is drinking lots of orange juice, loaded with Vitamin C.

Fruit That Could Brought Down Blood High Sugar Count In Minutes

This fruit can also be used as an alternative medicine to lower down your blood sugar count. Just like having a raw pancreas diet as mentioned in my previous blog.  If you have a blood sugar count based on your laboratory test 500 to 600 chili can bring it down to 78 in minutes.

Don't take chili with empty stomach. Always take chili after meal to keep yourself away from stomach ache. When taking chili,  chop 10 pieces of it  till it is very fine. Use spoon to put it in your mouth by placing chopped red chili at the back of your mouth then drink plenty of water, swallowing chopped red chili like swallowing a pill.

The hot sensation of red chili last only for five minutes. Experts says it does no harm to our body. Red chili is abundant in minerals that helps to prevent prostate problem,  hypertension, heart attack and  high blood sugar count. When taking this amazing fruit everything goes back to normal.

Take ten (10) pieces of   red chili daily three times a day and witness the amazing cure.

Breast lumps

Breast lumps

Author: Sajid Latif

What are breast lumps?

Breast lumps are either benign (harmless) or cancerous lumps of tissue in the breast.

What causes breast lumps and who is at risk?

The more common benign breast lumps include:

lumps caused by fibroadenosis, an overgrowth of breast tissue also known as 'mammary dysplasia', meaning a growth abnormality of the breast; this condition occurs particularly at times of hormonal change in the teens and between the ages of 40 and 60 years;

cysts, which occur only before the menopause; for example, a galactocoele is a milk-containing cyst that grows only during pregnancy;

fibroadenomas, which are most common in women in their twenties.

Breast cancer

In her lifetime, each woman in the UK has an overall one in 12 chance of developing breast cancer, the chances being greatest in old age. Risk factors that may be associated with developing breast cancer are:

having your first period early in life;

having a late menopause;

not having children;

having your first child at a late age;

long-term use of the contraceptive pill;

What are the common symptoms and complications of breast lumps?

It is usually the woman or her partner, rather than the doctor, who first notices the lump.

Benign breast lumps

Many women with fibroadenosis have a generalised lumpiness or thickening of both breasts rather than a single, well-defined lump.The upper outer quarter of the breast is the area most affected. The lumps caused by fibroadenosis can be tender or painful, and they may shrink and disappear altogether.

Cysts tend to appear suddenly and grow quickly.

Benign lumps can usually be moved around inside the breast tissue. This is particularly true of a fibroadenoma.

Breast cancer

Cancerous lumps are often hard and irregular in shape, and can be attached firmly to the breast tissue or the chest muscles beneath, which makes them difficult to move.

Wrinkling or pitting of the skin may appear over the lump. There may also be lumps in the armpit, which are enlarged lymph nodes.

Breast cancer can cause a discharge from the nipple, which may be blood-stained, or the nipple may be drawn inwards.

It can also spread outside the breast to the liver, lungs and brain, where it can cause serious illness or death.

What is the treatment for breast lumps?

Self-care action plan

The two most important factors in detecting breast cancer early are:

Being 'breast aware' simply means being on the lookout for any changes in your breast - any lumps, thickening, skin changes or nipple discharge - and reporting them to your doctor immediately.

The NHS breast screening programme offers mammography to all women aged 50 to 64 years every three years, whether they have lumps or not. You may also make use of the BUPA Health Screening facilities for regular mammograms.s.

Surgery

Breast cancer is nearly always treated with surgery, either removal of the lump or removal of the breast (mastectomy), depending on the size and nature of the cancer. This may be followed by radiotherapy (cancer-killing X-rays) and chemotherapy (cancer-killing drugs).
