How To Survive The Cold And Flu Season

As the temperature drops and we say goodbye to summer, we start to prepare for a long cold season, not just temperature wise, but in terms of illness. While getting the occasional cold and flu is not abnormal, it does put a damper on our day to day. In this article I'll discuss a few good tips to help prevent getting the cold and/or flu.
Tip #1 - Get some zzzzzzs - It is crucial to get a good nights sleep, without it we become more tired and our body focuses on keeping us going rather than fighting any infection. So stop burning the midnight oil and get some rest, especially during the cold and flu season.
Tip #2 - Wash your hands - It is so easy to absent-mindedly touch your face, but think of what that hand has been touching... especially in this season! Wash your hands often as they are one of the gateways to transmit infection from person to person. Make sure you also encourage your kids to wash their hands as soon as they get home from school to help minimize the spread of germs.
Tip #3 - No more sugar - Sugar is probably one of the worse things you can eat for your health. Did you know that eating the equivalent of 1 teaspoon of sugar per day can depress your immune system for 4 hours! Now that's a long time for your body to lose its defences during the prime time for infection.
Tip #4 - Eat the rainbow - Eating a colourful array of fruits and vegetables ensures that you are getting a vast amount of phytonutrients thus ensuring that you get the most vitamins and minerals from your diet to support your natural immune defences.
Tip #5 - Soak up the sun - Getting your daily vitamin D continues to be important all through the winter as it is also an important factor in proper immune function. If you're not getting outside very often consider supplementing with liquid vitamin D daily.
Tip #6 - Time for exercise - Following an exercise regime can increase your immune function and keep you feeling great. However, make sure you don't over do it since intense exercise can have the opposite effect!
Tip #7 - Decrease stress - I know easier said that done. But keep in mind that the more stress you have in your life the more stress this puts on your immune system and thus making you more susceptible to infection.
Tip #8 - Probiotics - Did you know that the majority of your immune system is found in your gut? Not kidding! So you can imagine if your gut is not colonized with the "good" bacteria then you're already fighting a losing battle. Consider taking a daily probiotic to ensure that you're providing some crowd control and keeping the "bad" bacteria out!
Still worried about getting the cold and/or flu? Consider coming in for an Immune Booster Shot! Dr. V has created an Immune Boosting Program that is customizable based on your immune needs.

What Is Reiki System of Natural Healing?

The word reiki means Universal life force energy where the word reiki means universal and 'ki' means life force energy. Life force energy is the vital force in all living things that enables them to live and procreate.
It is a unique art where the reiki practitioner channels this concentrated form of life force energy through their chakra system (invisible energy vortexes in the human body) the reiki energy flows through the crown chakra and then passes to their palm chakra, then this energy is beamed onto the healee to heal any ailments the healee may be suffering from.
Reiki energy has a soothing and relaxing characteristic; it is a wonderful stress buster. Most of the people receiving a treatment go to sleep within a couple of minutes of healing. Healing is divinely guided. It has innate intelligence to know and heal wholly and completely. In other words the healing energy knows how and what to heal we need not give instructions to it on how to heal Reiki energy is all knowing and it knows how to heal.
Reiki healing techniques are fairly simple and with dedication they are easy to master. There is no specific pre qualification required to learn it. Anyone with the desire to learn and an open mind can easily learn reiki. Attunement is a process during which the reiki master passes on their power to heal to the student. After the attunement process the reiki student gets the ability to channel energy and heal themselves and others effectively. Usually the attunement process involves invoking angels and gods and goddesses.
Reiki healing generally lasts for an hour. The practitioner can feel the flow of reiki energy through the body and transmit this energy to the person who gets healed, there are secret symbols used in reiki these symbols assist the process of healing. Reiki Distant Healing is also possible with reiki. It is possible to remotely send healing to the person without the healee physically being present with the reiki practitioner. Reiki distant healing is very powerful and is very convenient for the healee as they can get the healing at the comfort of their home.
Chakras are wheel like energy centre in our body there are seven major chakras in our human body they are muladhara( root chakra), swadhistan (sacral plexus ), manipuraha( solar plexus), anahata (heart chakra), vishudhi( throat chakra), ajna (third eye chakra), sahasrara(crown chakra). The working of these chakras are essential for the healthy working of the human body. With the help of reiki we can easily heal and restore heath and well being to all the chakras and the body parts and organ associated with each chakra.
Reiki is most importantly used for positive thinking and goal manifestation. Reiki destroys all negativity in the body, mind and consciousness and helps in bringing positive thoughts to us. There are various healing techniques in reiki which helps in manifestation of one's desires and manifesting one's goals.

What Is Chronic Lyme Disease?

What is chronic Lyme disease?
Chronic Lyme disease is widely unrecognized and unknown in today's popular contemporary medical field - in fact it creates defensiveness and denial when mentioned in many circles.
Chronic illness in and of itself has long existed and acknowledged throughout the world. On Ask.com, the following answer appeared after asking what is chronic illness:
A chronic disease is a disease that will last for a long time or will come and go, but always be a part of your life. Some chronic diseases include Fibromyalgia, COPD, diabetes, cancers and the different types of arthritis.
When I look up chronic on dictionary.com, I get words like "constant, habitual, continuing for a long time or recurring frequently, having a long duration." The Word English Dictionary adds "developing slowly, very bad and very serious" to the list.
The idea that today's Lyme disease is a singular culprit exists in traditional circles, but not in actual Lymies. We know that Lyme disease always travels and infects in multiples. Can you imagine if the mainstream media and medicine had to suddenly accept that most diabetes patients also simultaneously had stomach cancer or MS? Or that kids who got mono also had Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at the same time? The system would real from the ripples of confusion and fear this would create.
Chronic Lyme is rooted in the multiplicity of co-infections and the medical establishment's lack of treatment varieties. Their failure lies in low expertise with handling the widespread damage these various co-infections cause in the body and mind.
Most contemporary material on the internet and mainstream media will define Chronic Lyme as Lyme disease that is not "gone" or "cured" after 3-4 weeks of antibiotic treatment.
I would argue that there are tiers of Lyme, instead of the black and white version of only two kinds of Lyme disease in existence - Lyme and chronic Lyme.
Maybe the chart would look more like an Alzheimer's guide with early, middle and late stage Lyme described by symptoms. Add to that the lists of co-infections and trouble they cause and you understand why it confuses everyone.
Three to four weeks of antibiotics, if taken right after an initial tick bite might actually do some good and keep that person from being sick, but it might also just cause the spirochete to go dormant, only to rear its ugly head again down the road.
Chronic Lyme disease means that you don't have a typical case. It most likely means that you have seen multiple doctors before finding out you even had Lyme. It designates that you have various co-infections of other tick borne illnesses that are taking turns causing trouble and destroying your body. Chronic Lyme entitles you to be widely misunderstood by doctors, friends and family who will sometimes think you are faking it. Chronic Lyme attacks not just the physical, but the mental and emotional. It means that your treatment road will be long and hard and painful - and did I mention hard, and long? Oh, and it will be expensive.
Chronic Lyme, however, is not a death sentence. It is not a cause to weep or get discouraged. There are many (not a ton) qualified knowledgeable doctors who have learned how to fight this illness and win.
Think of it more like a car accident that damages your knee right before your professional basketball career is just taking off. Maybe you'll never play basketball again, or if you do it will be with a brace. Possibly, your knee will ache when it's going to rain. Maybe by the time you are older, a house without stairs helps your knee not hurt. The car wreck altered the course of your life and changed your plans, but you are still functional and able to live. It is forever with you, but you are still living.
Chronic Lyme will not be the end of you or your life - it feels like it and if not properly treated, it can be. It is brutal and difficult and has taken the lives of many who fought the good fight, but more because the lack of doctors, treatment and financial availability.
Would I have gotten so sick if someone would have found the Lyme years ago before all the slow damage? Could I have been spared the 2 years of the Lyme pit if it were more widely understood and well known? If we had an early detection system would there be such widespread Chronic Lyme at all?
We are the cusp of a Lyme revolution. Keep talking about it, keep researching, keep seeking truth in this Lyme battle. Be a Lyme evangelist with me.
I am a recovering Lymie myself and the mother of two recovering Lymies. I am compelled this side of the healing process to reach out and help others with encouragement and information that leads to success. You are not alone in this chronic Lyme disease battle and you can conquer it and win your life back.

Homeopathic Remedies For Trigeminal Neuralgia - Why More Patients Prefer Them

Patients with trigeminal neuralgia are more inclined to choose homeopathic remedies over others. You only need to look at how many patients who are seeking a cure for their trigeminal neuralgia go out of the country and venture in far-flung places just to have homeopathic treatments. They no longer seem to mind that they have to spend a lot of money, time and energy; all they care about is finding the cure. We actually see people with trigeminal neuralgia leaving their western countries, and heading to the oriental countries which are known to be centers of excellence when it comes to homeopathic treatments. Importing of the homeopathic medicines have also become the norm among those who do not have the physical capability to make the trip. Unfortunately, the expenses are far greater. The question that needs an answer here is the one as to why homeopathic treatments for trigeminal neuralgia are so attractive to patients.

The first attraction of homeopathic remedies for trigeminal neuralgia that draws patients to it is the evidences that point to their effectiveness in actually solving the problem. There have been so many anecdotes and stories shared by many people who have tried - and failed - practically every conventional medical treatment there is for trigeminal neuralgia. And then, when they tried out homeopathic treatments, they saw a significant improvement and became even cured of their condition. Their firsthand knowledge of the pains that one with trigeminal neuralgia convinced them then to share their stories of how they prevailed over their illness. As a result, others who are also suffering from the same illness are convinced that they, too, could find the solution that they are seeking in the same manner that the others have tried.

For the most part, homeopathic remedies that are currently used to treat trigeminal neuralgia are safe, which is why patients are wanting more and more to try them out. There are a lot of oral medicines in the homeopathic system of medicine that can be effectively used by patients who are suffering from trigeminal neuralgia. Surgery has its risks, but it is the main course of treatment for trigeminal neuralgia if you are to take the conventional medicine route. The benefits obtained from such (rather risky) surgical procedures are quite comparable with those which are obtained from the non-invasive homeopathic therapies. Common sense would dictate that the patients would prefer a procedure that is both non-invasive and safe.

The third attraction that homeopathic treatments hold for patients with trigeminal neuralgia is the cost. They are more cost-effective than conventional medical methods. If you are going to make use of conventional medicine methods, there are two approaches that are applicable. Medications and drugs are the first option. However, more often than not, they serve only to improve the condition. If you're looking for a complete cure, you won't find it with them. Surgery would be the other option. This approach is preferred because it is deemed to be a more permanent fix than medications. Both approaches are, however, not known to be cheap. Homeopathic remedies are, on the other hand, considered to be quite cost-effective (especially when one opts to take a long-term view of the whole thing). If you consult with practitioners of homeopathic medicine, you will find that they are very hard to find. When you do, they do not come cheap, either. However, if you get the simple prescriptions these practitioners provide, they are not at all complicated.

Natural Healing For Fibromyalgia Sufferers

An estimated 5 million Americans suffer from fibromyalgia. The chronic, deep aches can have an enormous impact on physical and emotional health. Unfortunately, treatments are few and far between, and those that exist often come with the potential for unpleasant side effects. Natural healing can be a blessing for fibromyalgia sufferers. These gentle, effective complementary therapies can improve quality of life and rejuvenate a body wracked by chronic pain.
Massage is often one of the most effective methods of reducing fibromyalgia symptoms. It eases stiffness, improves range of motion, reduces pain and helps with stress management. A technique called myofascial release is especially suited to soothing fibromyalgia pain. Fascia is a thin connective tissue that covers and runs throughout muscle. Fibromyalgia patients commonly suffer from tightening of the fascia that contributes to pain and muscle fatigue. Myofascial release is a gentle technique that relaxes the fascia and reduces associated pain.
Natural therapies can help from within as well. Research has found that many fibromyalgia sufferers have low vitamin D and magnesium levels. While deficiencies might not play a direct role in the disorder, they can aggravate fibromyalgia symptoms like fatigue, difficulty sleeping and muscle weakness. They can also contribute to anxiety and depression that worsens fibromyalgia. Simple blood tests can be done to determine deficiency, and a doctor can recommend an ideal supplementation regimen.
Vitamins are not the only supplements to consider. A natural sleep aid, such as melatonin, may help. Trouble sleeping can not only contribute to fatigue but also worsen muscle aches and depression. Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that tells the body it is time for sleep. Artificial light, from light bulbs to the glow of computer screens, can interfere with the body's ability to produce melatonin and interfere with restful sleep. Avoiding bright lights and computer screens starting an hour before bedtime and taking a melatonin supplement might help.
Restful sleep is a boon to anyone, but even a fantastic night's sleep cannot always stave off the physical and mental fatigue of fibromyalgia. For that, drinking green tea or taking green tea extract may be of benefit. Green tea contains a substance called l-tyrosine, an amino acid that helps the body create proteins. More and more studies are finding that l-tyrosine has a positive effect on the mind. Green tea combines a mild dose of caffeine and l-tyrosine into a perfect cocktail to achieve a relaxed but attentive mental state.
Learning to understand what contributes to their symptoms is a crucial factor for anyone suffering from a chronic pain condition. A mind/body relaxation technique called biofeedback is designed to do just that. By learning about how their bodies work and learning to control these factors, biofeedback helps individuals learn how to reduce stress. In a biofeedback session, adhesive electrodes monitor changes in the body while the patient is led through simple mental exercises. Patients learn how certain exercises change their body and how they can use these changes to their advantage.
Research into the effects of natural healing on fibromyalgia is not extensive, and a doctor should be consulted before starting any complimentary therapies. However, many fibromyalgia sufferers have found that combining conventional and natural medicine is just what they needed. It is an avenue well worth pursuing.

The Deadliest Creatures In Asia

Asia is a huge continent that encompasses large areas of rain forest, desert and metropolitan cities. It is the most densely populated region on the planet, and home to more animal species than any other region. Certain creatures in Asia have the power to kill humans, and have done so on many occasions. The intrepid traveller should learn a little bit about what to expect, before they set off on the unbeaten path.
The humble tiger comes in at number five on the list of 'the most scary' animals in Asia. It is the largest of all big cats, whereby it has been popularised through western movies, and engrained into the mythology of certain countries within the region. The tiger is generally a solitary animal that likes to quietly go about its business. They ruled the Asian rain forests long before the introduction of human inhabitants, and it is only in recent times that these settlements have caused a conflict. One example of this is a recent cyclone, which swept through Bangladesh. This forced the tigers out of their habitat, resulting in six human deaths and 12 mauling's.
The King Cobra can reach lengths of up to 20 feet, which makes it the longest venomous snake in the world. They are one of the only snakes that are capable of sitting on their own body, which enables them to rear up to the height of a fully grown man. This gives them an incredible amount of agility, alongside a wide scope of vision. Once aggravated they are hard to shake off, and have even been known to chase humans. Their venom is a 'neurotoxin' which has the power to disable a victim's nervous system. Bite victims suffer from a 75% mortality rate; owing to the power of venom and the lack of medical care within the region.
One of the lesser known creatures of the region in the Asian giant hornet. These huge wasp like creatures sometimes have wing spans that are bigger than humming birds, and can reach speeds of up to 25 miles per hour. It is often commonly referred to as the 'Japanese Giant Hornet', due to the fact that it kills numerous people per in Japan alone. The European hornet only causes problems to those who suffer from anaphylaxis, which is a very small percentage of the global population. The giant hornet's venom is far worse than its European cousin, and can easily strike down a healthy adult with just one sting. The stinger itself is the length of a finger nail, which injects a powerful neurotoxin into its victim.
The number one scariest creature in Asia has to be the reticulated python. The biggest recorded python of this type is around 6.5 metres, which when put into context is roughly the same size as a school bus. The reticulated python occupies rain forests, wetlands and grasslands. The snakes have had to evolve due to human encroachment of their habitat, whereby they are reported to prey on small mammals and domesticated pets, in cities like Kuala Lumpa and Bangkok.
Probably the scariest fact of them all is that there is a huge wealth of evidence to suggest that the snakes have been able to eat small children and teenagers. On September 4th, 1955 a rubber tapper named Ee Heng Chuan was squeezed to death by a reticulated python. His brother stumbled across his corpse deep in the jaws of the python, which required four gun shots to kill it.

Paracetamol is a Multi Purpose Medicine

Paracetamol is one of the most commonly used drugs for a variety of illness and discomforts. Available both over the counter and in part of prescription medications, paracetamol is sold the world over under various different brands, and is celebrated as a particularly effective and versatile drug. However, the simple paracetamol that is sold so widely isn't necessarily harmless, and overdose can lead to drastic consequences. In this article we will look at the effectiveness of paracetamol, why it works like it does, and indeed why it can be so damaging to the internal organs.
Paracetamol can be used to treat minor fever and pains, and is relatively effective at providing a degree of relief. Despite the fact that the drug has been used as a treatment for nearly a century, many of its properties are still unknown, and its mechanism still isn't entirely clear. Studies have shown that paracetamol works by indirectly hampering the production and activity of cells known as prostaglandins in the brain which are involved in creating pain and discomfort. However, it still remains somewhat vague as to how exactly the drug functions within the body.
However paracetamol works, it is known that it definitely has the effect of reducing painful sensations, and cooling fevers. For this reason, it has become one of the most widely used medications in the world, and is used in the treatment of a manner of different ailments.
Paracetamol, as well as being particularly effective at reducing pain and the symptoms of cold and flu, is also potential toxic, and very harmful to vital organs. In fact, the toxic dose of paracetamol is not much greater than the medical dose, so it is important to stick rigidly to allowances within the specified time period. Without effective treatment, an overdose of paractemol can irreparably damage the liver, and even result in liver failure, and even potentially death. It should be remembered at all times that whilst useful, paracetamol is also a very dangerous drug, and requires very little to reach overdose.
Paracetamol as a drug has been around for almost a hundred years, and it continues to this day to provide relief to minor aches and pains and flu like symptoms. On top of that, it is the subject of ongoing research work to discover exactly how it works in fighting pain. It should always be considered that whilst an effective form of pain relief, paracetamol can also be deadly, and hence it is essential to follow the guidelines or instructions which are supplied with the medication for safe consumption.
