Whooping cough is an infectious bacterial illness that affects the respiratory passages. The disease is most contagious during the cold-like initial phase (catarrhal phase). In its early stages, pertussis is indistinguishable from the many colds common in children.Whooping Cough is spread by contact with an airborne discharge from the mucous membranes of an infected person. Causes of Whooping Cough

Garlic: Garlic is a remedy for whooping cough. Crush the cloves of garlic and extract the juice. Take 1 tsp of the juice twice a day.
Vegetables like spinach, cabbage, gourds, should be taken in a boiled from without addition of any condiments. Whole meal bread and roasted potatoes could also be given.
Belleric Myroblan (Terminalia belerica) The fruit of the belleric myroblan has excellent curative powers in the treatment of coughs caused due to catarrh.
Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) Cloves can reduce the irritation of the throat. Cloves are more effective if the coughs are produced due to inflammation of the pharynx.
A very simple way to stop coughs in the night is to place three to four pieces of long pepper in the mouth. Chew them slightly so that their extract oozes into the mouth. As long as the peppers remain in the mouth, the urge to cough will be suppressed and you will get a restful sleep at night.
Gargle sage leaves and elder blossom tea with a little almond oil, oil of clove, and honey to reduce the cough and soothe the throat.
A teaspoon of honey, a pinch of turmeric powder, chewing cardamom for a while, a stick of clove, all these have proven very beneficial in treating dry cough.
Make a syrup by combining 1 teaspoonful of raw onion juice with 1 teaspoonful of honey; let it stay for 3-4 hours, and take in doses. This is the useful Home Remedy for Cough.
Thyme for Cough: The extracted oil thymol of thyme is used as an antibiotic and expectorant. In fact, this herb is commonly used in most commercial cough syrup formulation. Thyme in syrup, tincture, tea, and oil form is very effective in treating coughs.
Take 5 grams of powdered Licorice root with honey thrice in a day. You can also make a decoction by using teaspoon to one cup of water. Take three cups every day. Licorice has gentle and anti-inflammatory properties, and is an expectorant.
Its common sense that you cannot find remedy for a problem that you can't attach a name to. The symptoms for whooping cough are easily detectable and they are prolonged periods of a running nose, sneezing, dry cough and sometimes a high fever that can even hit 100 degrees.
